Citizenship for children

The Norwegian Embassy in Asmara accepts applications for a Norwegian passport for children born in Eritrea where the mother or the father has a Norwegian citizenship.

Documents that are generally required: Birth certificate, copy of passport / ID-card of parents, marriage certificate and a signed statement in original from both parents stating that they want their child to have a Norwegian personal number and passport. You must  in this document explain the reason(s) to why you want your child to have a Norwegian personal number.

In addition NAV 55-00.10  ”Acknowledgement of paternity”  must be filled out correctly and signed according to the instructions in the formular. The acknowledgement must be signed in front of an office as mentioned: doctor/midwife (in connection with pregnancy check-up/birth), population register, maintenance  enforcement agency, county national insurance office, judge, consulate official, or shipmaster.

After a Norwegian personal number has been issued by a Norwegian population register, the Embassy will request a passport to be issued.
