Book an Appointment

Application Portal

The Embassy in Asmara started using the Norwegian Application Portal on 31 January 2011. The new application procedure will result in shorter processing time, as well as making it easier for applicants to re-apply for subsequent visas. Applicants can also check the status of their applications online. Applicants using the Application Portal will be given priority.

You must make an online application and book an appointment if you want to apply for one of the following permits:

  • Schengen Visa
  • Family reunification
  • Work permit (if you have an offer of employment from an employer in Norway)
  • Study permit
  • Au Pair permit

For the last three types of applications, we advise the applicant to contact the embassy before registering an application.

Applicants going to Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Germany, the Netherlands or Austria may only use the Portal for Schengen visas, not Work- / Residence Permits.

Visa applicants who wish to apply for a visa at the Embassy in Asmara may fill in the application form, pay the application fee of EUR 60 and book an appointment on the secure Application Portal.  This can also be done by the sponsor in Norway / Sweden / Denmark / Iceland / Germany / the Netherlands / Austria. Afterwards, the applicant must submit his / her supporting documents at the embassy.

Applicants who fail to provide the necessary supporting documents, will kindly be asked to book one new appointment.

Booking

All applicants must book an appointment on the Application Portal before coming to the embassy to hand in their supporting documents. Please note that the application is not regarded as submitted until the supporting documents have been handed in at the embassy. Incomplete applications (missing documents) will lead to a negative result (rejection) of the application.

An appointment can be changed (by the applicant) from 'Previous individual application(s)' / 'Previous group application(s)' on the Application Portal. It is not possible to book an appointment without a visa application.

Cancellation of Application

To cancel an application, you must contact the Consular Section in Asmara Monday to Thursday between 14:00 and 15:00. No requests for cancelling of an appointment will be accepted at other times. It is not possible to cancel an application using the Application Portal.

In order to cancel an application, call the consular section at 08 20 50 55. You may also send us an e-mail instead at emb.asmara@mfa.no

No Internet access?

There are several Internet cafes in Eritrea.

It is also possible for the sponsor in Norway / Sweden / Denmark / Iceland / Germany / the Netherlands / Austria to complete all or part of the online process for the applicant (e.g. log on and pay the application fee).

Sponsors who complete the entire process for the applicant (and the applicant is unable to log on to the Portal himself / herself) must send a copy of the completed application form to the applicant (for example by e-mail), so that he / she is fully aware of the information being submitted.

The application form may be viewed and / or printed out from 'Previous individual applications' on the Portal.

The applicant must also sign the cover letter (which can be printed out after an appointment has been booked or anytime after that from 'Previous individual applications' on the Portal) and submit at the Embassy along with his / her supporting documents.

The application form itself should not be submitted, as this is transferred electronically from the Application Portal to the embassy.

How to apply - Existing users (who have previously used the Application Portal)

Applicants who have used the Application Portal before can simply log on to https://selfservice.udi.no/, use the last application as a template and only change details such as travel dates, etc., pay the fee and book an appointment to hand in the supporting documents.

Group registration

Applications can be registered individually or in groups on the Portal. A group may consist of 1 - 15 applicants, however, it is a requirement that all applicants have the same nationality and are travelling on the same dates, with the same itinerary.

Registering many applications as a group saves time. However, only individual applications may be copied for subsequent applications in the future. Families or people who always travel together may therefore want to register all applications individually.

Supporting documents

A number of documents are required in order to process a visa application. Applicants must bring the complete supporting documents on their date of appointment. Please see the links below for the list of supporting documents.

Required documents (all countries)

Applicants applying for an entry visa (D visa) in connection with Family Reunification do not need to use the Application Portal or fill in any addition information. Instead, they can use the same application form and submit the same supporting documents as for the application for family reunification.

Tickets

Applicants who have been informed that they have been granted a visa must produce the following:

  • Round trip tickets (E-ticket with e-ticket number or other proof that the ticket has been paid for)

Applicants are advised not to buy any tickets before they have received information from the embassy that the application has been approved.
