On 4th of October 2011, the Norwegian Embassy together with UNFPA and Ministry of Health visited the fistula section in Mendefera Hospital. The purpose of the visit was to observe the progress of the Norwegian-supported program and to see the facilitation of the Fistula surgery that is undertaken by the Surgicals’ team from Stanford University.

Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) has supported building of a water tank and water system for Tselot village (3200 inhabitants). The tank can take 100m3, and was said to be the biggest in the zoba Maekel.

Three UN agencies, UNFPA, UNICEF and UNAIDS are jointly working on HIV/AIDS program that targets vulnerable groups. The goal of the project is to contribute to the UNDAF Outcome 1: ‘By 2011 access and utilization of quality basic social services (particularly in HIV and related services) are equitably increased by at least 30% with special emphasis on vulnerable groups.’

Fair Allocation of Infotech Resources (FAIR) ( http://www.fairinternational.org ) has, with financial support from NORAD, assisted schools in Eritrea with second hand computers for several years. FAIR is an international non-profit NGO aiding developing countries by supplying resources within ICT and offering hardware, software, installation, training, support and take-back systems for EE-waste. FAIR has operations in more than 15 developing countries. World food day, October 16th 2010, was commemorated at Hamelmalo Agricultural College (HAC) outside the town of Keren. The Norwegian Embassy attended the ceremony together with 300 invited guests and staff of the college.
