Henrik Ibsen’s world famous play ’A Dolls House’ in Eritrea

30/03/2010 // The world famous play ‘A Dolls House’ by Henrik Ibsen has been performed several times in Eritrea since December 2009. The play is in Tigrinya and the project is a cooperation between the Norwegian government and PFDJ.

The version of the play represents a careful adaptation to a contemporary Eritrean middle class situation. It depicts the life of characters, which might be interpreted as living through conflict that are relevant also in today’s Eritrea. The names of the characters have been changed from the original Norwegian ones.

The Eritrean production of the play is an example of the important cultural cooperation between Eritrea and Norway, and is being supported by The Royal Norwegian Embassy.
